This article will help guide you through how to install meter.me on a water storage tank.
Recommended Tools
These tools will be helpful to complete the installation:
- Channellock Pliers 0-1.5”
- Adjustable Wrench 0-1.5”
- 1 ⅛” Holesaw
- 1” NPT Thread Tapper
- Screwdriver
- Tape Measure
1. Make sure you have setup a meter.base that provides signal coverage to the tank location.
Refer to these support articles depending on the meter.base you have:
2. Drill a hole into the tank to install the sensor
- The Sensor cable comes provided with a cable gland and 1” male threaded PVC Plug.
- If your tank doesn’t have an existing 1” bulkhead, you will first need to drill a 1 ⅛” diameter hole in the top of the tank above the overflow pipe (when drilling the hole, hold a dustpan or similar item inside the tank to catch any falling debris). Then, use a 1-inch NPT thread tap on the new tank hole to create the threads.
- Gently push the sensor into the hole and slowly lower it until it touches the bottom of the tank. You will want to ensure the sensor is not dropped in such a way that it could damage the internal diaphragm. Now you can install the 1” male plug with the cable gland.
- Once the sensor touches the bottom, you will want to pull it back up an inch or two in order to ensure the sensor is suspended vertically. This will also help to ensure the sensor is not stuck in mud or sludge at the bottom of the tank.
- To lock the sensor in place, tighten the gland to squeeze down on the cable.
3. Complete the install by following the directions in the meter.me installer app
Download the app and go through the set up instructions to complete the installation. Instructions for how to wire the sensor the mote are included in the app.
